States Where Pharmacists Provide Immunizations
In over 30 states in the United States, pharmacists can administer immunizations through a protocol arrangement with a physician. In these states, many community pharmacies offer immunizations to patients. This web site provides a list of states where pharmacists are authorized to administer immunizations.

Two important facts should be noted about pharmacist administered immunization. Research has shown that:

  • In states where pharmacists immunize, the number of immunizations administered by physician offices actually increases. Immunization by pharmacists is not a substitute for physician administered immunization but actually stimulates more immunizations by physicians, raising the overall immunization rate in the population.
  • Patient satisfaction with pharmacist administered immunization is extremely high, with the vast majority of patients indicating they would return for future immunizations or recommend the service to their friends.
